Developing Extended Reality Projects in Support of Design, Fabrication and Procedure

    Get PDF
The goal of this internship was to improve and create virtual reality simulations and visualizations for use in parallel with the design, fabrication, and analysis of flight ready hardware for areas like the Environmental Control and Life Support Systems (ECLSS) and also Space Systems. Specifically, my work was done in the XRSpace lab at Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) with assistance directly and indirectly from workers at KSC, JSC and LaRC. Led by David Reynolds, the XRSpace lab develops products for various entities at NASA. The work done in the XRSpace lab focuses on Extended Reality (XR) solutions for both simulations and visualization capabilities. The goal of the lab is to support the larger systems of NASA and to help find ways that XR technologies can streamline and optimize the design process. Extended Reality is an umbrella term that encompasses Mixed Reality, Augmented Reality, and Virtual Reality. In this capacity, I was able to complete several elements in the design, building, testing, and deployment for a variety of immersive experiences, including a VR procedure simulation, visualization aids, and a 360-image capture tool

Engine instrumentation and data analysis for ignition system testing

    Get PDF
The charge ignition system is used to ignite the fuel-air mixture in the combustion chamber of a spark ignited internal combustion engine and is the subject of many ongoing research projects. As a means to quantify the performance of an ignition system, a 16 horsepower Briggs and Stratton V-twin engine has been instrumented and the necessary data analysis software developed. This test engine was used to monitor the performance of three different ignition sources. When the performance of these ignition sources was analyzed using the test engine, the differences in performance of the systems was evident in the calculated values for the engine\u27s exhaust temperature, specific fuel consumption, indicated mean effective pressure, and fuel conversion efficiency. The test engine also provided pressure versus volume traces, which provide a visual representation of the poor combustion caused by inadequate ignition sources

Product Plan Recommendations for the 100traffic Water Turbine

    Get PDF
Our main purpose in partaking in this project is to assist 100traffic in creating a final product package. This package can then be used by 100traffic to seek to obtain potential investors for their new double impulse wheel system water turbine. The main goal of our project is to create a product plan recommendation for 100traffic’s new prototype

Innovation in Flight: Research of the NASA Langley Research Center on Revolutionary Advanced Concepts for Aeronautics

    Get PDF
The goal of this publication is to provide an overview of the topic of revolutionary research in aeronautics at Langley, including many examples of research efforts that offer significant potential benefits, but have not yet been applied. The discussion also includes an overview of how innovation and creativity is stimulated within the Center, and a perspective on the future of innovation. The documentation of this topic, especially the scope and experiences of the example research activities covered, is intended to provide background information for future researchers

A COMPARATIVE STUDY OF CONVENTIONAL BONDS AND ISLAMIC SUKUK, AND THEIR USE OF THE TRUST INSTRUMENT

    Get PDF
The English trust form has been an invaluable tool in the growth and development of capital markets, assisting in the smooth running of the bond markets in a way which is seemingly unattainable through contract law alone. During the course of the last few years, however, modern western finance has begun to experiment with, and embrace, a new legal instrument: the Islamic Sukuk. Similar to bonds in their employment of the trust form, the Sukuk is growing to be an essential tool in modern finance, providing western business with an opportunity to tap a previously restricted source of funding. Since the introduction of the instrument its’ use has continued to grow, with many city law firms now having specialist Islamic Finance teams to tackle the unique questions and hurdles that the integration of sukuk into the western financial system inevitably creates. This article examines the use of the trust form by both traditional bonds, and the Islamic sukuk, to ascertain why the trust is so valuable, and begins to assess what advantages and disadvantages may arise from the more common use of the sukuk in our western financial system
